NOTE: We have renamed our game. It was Taboo for the Culture, now it is Words for the Culture. The game is exactly the same, the only that has changed is the name.
Tabu (Words) for the Culture is a classic card guessing game with a Black Culture theme. Two teams compete to guess words ranging from 90's pop culture, all the way to current slang/lingo.
The game includes Buzzuh - a mobile app that enhances gameplay. With Buzzuh, you can customize team names and keep score. Buzzuh includes a timer that allows you to choose the length of each round. You can choose lightning quick 30 second rounds or go all the way up to marathon 2 minute rounds (or you can choose in between, there are also options for 45, 60 or 90 second rounds).
Finally, Buzzuh allows you to choose a unique buzzer sound for each team. You can choose from the library of pre-loaded sounds, or record your own custom sound to serve as the buzzer.
SPECIAL: Add our new edition "I Luv the 90's" and get 30% off. Adding this edition will almost double the amount of cards you have to play with.

How to Play?
How to Play?
The goal of the game is to get your teammates to guess the word you are describing without saying the list of words that are tabu to say. Divide into two teams, get the cards ready, and Buzzuh! app. Each word you get right is a point for your team, and all of the cards you skip or cards that you said words that were taboo is a point for the other team.
Before Play
Download Buzzah! app on your mobile device. Activation codes are located on the back of your Taboo card game box. Have each team select a team name and a buzzer sound from a pre-fixed list or create your own authentic sound. Decide on the length of time per round - 30, 45, or 60 seconds.
Starting The Game
Step 1: Divide the players into two teams. Try and have an even number of team members.
Step 2: Place a smaller pile of cards in front of the first player.
Step 3: Draw one care at a time. No looking ahead!
Step 4: Start the timer from the Buzzah! app.
Playing Each Round
Step 1: Give your teammates clues about the word.
Step 2: Avoid Tabu words.
Step 3: Opponents get ready to use the Buzzah! watch and listen for tabu words. When you hear the clue giver say a tabu word you buzz them! Put the card in the discard pile.
Step 4: Keep cards separated into two piles, one for correct answers and the other for skipped or buzzed words.
Step 5: Score the round. The clue giving team gets one point for all words guessed correctly. The opponents get one point for each card that was skipped or buzzed. Enter score in Buzzah! app.
Winning The Game
Decide to play to a certain score or for a certain number of rounds. Team with the most points wins. In the case of a tie, each team gets one more turn to determine the winner.

Amazing! Need a deluxe version.
Game is a hit , played it with my family on Thanksgiving and everyone loved it .
It was a good game for different conversations.
When I saw this game on IG, I bookmarked it immediately because I thought it would actually bring some fun to our after-Thanksgiving family function. We had a whole call about the games, and my uncle said his wife would be “handling” them. Since I’m the only young person on this so-called committee, I suggested Black Tabu to keep things lively and, you know, relevant.
My uncle acted like we were about to audition for Jeopardy. I had to let him know real quick — “Sir, this is Black culture, not a pop quiz. You’ll survive.” I even told them I’d buy the game myself if we were going to play it. Everybody claimed they were fine with it.
Fast-forward to the actual event… did we play the game? Of course not. Instead, my uncle’s wife brought out some mystery, Dollar Store-sounding, never-before-seen games nobody asked for. It was giving “Pinterest fail.” It was giving “last-minute Google search.” It was giving “why am I here?”
Meanwhile, my Black Tabu sat in my bag like an uninvited guest.
But that’s fine. Because one thing about me? I don’t waste a good game on people who don’t know how to have fun. I’ll be playing it on Christmas — with my hood family, who actually understands vibes — since I won’t be seeing my family anyway.
And honestly? Thank God for that. 🙏🏽😌
This is a fun game to play with friends . It was purchased for a low key game night and was a hit with the entire group .
